Counselling offers a confidential, respectful and professionally guided space to speak about what has been difficult, understand recurring patterns and work towards realistic goals at a pace that feels manageable.
Start a ConversationThere is no need to organise your whole story before the first session. We can begin with what feels most present and make sense of it together.
Family change, employment conflict and legal processes can affect more than the immediate issue. They may also bring fear, grief, anger, shame, uncertainty, relationship strain or difficulty making decisions.
Shirley's legal-practice background gives her a practical understanding of these pressures. In counselling, however, the focus remains on the client's emotional experience, coping, communication and personal choices — not on legal merits, legal strategy or predicting the outcome of a matter.
If the counselling relationship may overlap with a matter in which Shirley has another professional role, the roles will be reviewed carefully. Counselling may be declined or referred to another suitable counsellor where necessary to avoid a conflict of interest or unclear boundaries.
Counselling is a collaborative professional relationship. Sessions may involve exploring concerns, noticing patterns, developing practical coping approaches, considering choices and identifying realistic goals.
Difficult experiences can sometimes bring temporary emotional discomfort when discussed. You may ask to pause, slow down or change the focus at any time.
A longer first session to understand what brings you to counselling, relevant background, your hopes for the process and whether the arrangement is suitable.
Continuing sessions arranged according to suitability and mutually discussed goals.
A structured space for partners to understand concerns, communication patterns and relationship needs, and to consider possible ways forward.
A structured five-session series for a small group working around a clearly agreed area of concern or personal development. Group dates begin after a suitable participant group and schedule have been confirmed.
Online and in-person counselling are available. In-person sessions are held by confirmed appointment at Wisma JAG, Taman Desa, Kuala Lumpur; walk-ins are not available. Online clients should join from a private and safe location with a stable connection.
Personal information and counselling content are treated as confidential, with recognised legal and professional limits. These include serious safety concerns, child or vulnerable-person protection, legal requirements or court orders, and situations where the client gives written consent.
The full confidentiality terms will be explained in the Client Intake & Informed Consent Form before counselling begins.
Counselling does not guarantee a particular result, and the counsellor will not make decisions on your behalf. Progress may be influenced by readiness, attendance, openness, outside circumstances and the nature of the concern.
Counselling is not psychiatric or medical treatment, emergency intervention or legal advice. Where another professional service is more suitable, a referral may be recommended.
This brief call is for clarifying the service, practical arrangements and possible suitability. It is not a counselling session and does not replace professional assessment.
